A man was killed early Saturday after his vehicle struck a sturdy concrete wall of a home in Fresno County, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Manuel Peregrina said.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the man as Sergio Mendoza, 39, of Fresno.
The CHP said the crash happened on Lincoln Avenue near Bishop Avenue southwest of Fresno. Peregrina said Mendoza was pinned in his 2003 Honda Pilot and died before firefighters arrived.
The crash was reported at 4:30 a.m. There was nobody at the home that was struck and Peregrina said the short wall alongside Lincoln did not sustain much damage.
Peregrina said preliminary investigation suggests Mendoza was traveling west on Lincoln when he drifted onto the eastbound shoulder, then shot back across Lincoln and into the wall. Alcohol or drugs were not yet known to be a factor in the crash.
