The Stanislaus Street bridge between Broadway and E Streets in downtown Fresno was closed temporarily on Thursday due to a vehicle accident.
The closure was announced Thursday morning as a precautionary measure.
City spokesman Mark Standriff said the accident happened Wednesday when a city of Fresno truck, driving with the bucket lift extended, struck the bridge. An investigation is pending.
As a result of the accident, the bridge is being inspected for structural integrity, city officials said.
Delays are expected.
It is unclear how long the one-way bridge will be closed.
The Stanislaus Street bridge is scheduled for demolition at a date to be determined because it doesn’t provide enough clearance for the coming high-speed trains. It will not be replaced. Instead, drivers can use the two-way Tuolumne Street bridge that opened this summer.
