Tragedy was avoided Thursday night in central Fresno when a car stuck by traffic was struck by a northbound freight train – after a husband and wife in the vehicle were able to get out, police said.
The incident was reported about 6:30 p.m., according to Fresno Police call logs, with officers responding to a call of a collision on railroad tracks at West Olive Avenue and North Golden State Boulevard.
Heavy traffic led to the car getting stuck on the tracks, according to Fresno Police, and caught under the crossing signal’s arms. The couple got out before the train could reach them.
Olive Avenue was blocked for an unknown amount of time. Additional details remained unavailable.
