West Fresno Family Resource Center will hold a back to school health fair 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 12 at Maxie Parks Community Center, 1802 E. California Ave. There will be health screenings, nutrition education, free haircuts, free backpacks and school supplies, and information on college and employment resources.

The Hanford California Highway Patrol office will hold a Start Smart class at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Recreation Association of Corcoran, 900 Dairy Ave. in Corcoran. The free class focuses on providing comprehensive traffic safety education classes for teenagers and their parents.
The sixth annual Bets for Pets fundraiser will be held 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Engelmann Cellars, 3275 N. Rolinda Ave. The theme is “Summer of Love” and includes dinner and drinks, dancing to The Valley Cats, a silent auction and casino tables. Proceeds benefit Central California SPCA’s spay and neuter program, wellness fund and educational efforts. Tickets cost $70.
Sanger High reunion
Sanger High School’s Class of 1967 will celebrate its 50th reunion Sept. 8-10. Members of the 1966 and 1968 class are also invited. The event includes a reception at Airport Piccadilly Inn, a reunion dinner at Sunnyside Country Club and breakfast at Piccadilly Inn.
Bullard High School’s Class of 1977 will hold its 40th reunion 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 23 at San Joaquin Country Club, 3484 W. Bluff Ave. Tickets are $55 and checks should be made payable to BHS Class of 1977 Reunion, 5132 N. Palm PMB 69, Fresno, CA 93704. Deadline is Sept. 1.
Retiring officers honored
Madera County Sheriff Jay Varney honored three retiring Madera Search and Rescue Volunteers for their years of service. Brenda and Mike Perreira are a husband and wife team who ran the basic SAR Academy for many years. Ron Vargus has been part of the SAR Team for about 10 years, giving his talents to many specialty teams such as the SAR Overhead Management Team and Mounted Horse Team. The trio also received commendations from the Governor’s Office of Emergency Service, Law Enforcement Branch.
