Two women who were rafting were rescued Monday along the San Joaquin River north of Woodward Park on the border of Fresno and Madera counties.

A man was able to get to the top of the Highway 41 bridge and flag down a CHP officer to alert of trouble.

Several rafters called the Fresno Fire Department and Madera County firefighters to alert them of the emergency.

Fresno firefighters used a boat to rescue the rafters after they became stuck in trees on the river about 1:30 p.m.

They were rescued shortly before 2 p.m. There was no immediate information on injuries.
