At the scene of a major-injury crash involving a motorcycle
A motorcyclist was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center with life-threatening injuries Wednesday after a collision with a car in northwest Fresno. He died later Wednesday, Fresno police Lt. Joe Gomez said.
The crash took place about 10 a.m. at Figarden Drive and Brunswick Avenue. Gomez said the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was investigating the accident.
Initial information was that the 46-year-old rider of a Yamaha V Star cruiser-style motorcycle was eastbound on Figarden, approaching Brunswick, and a 31-year-old woman was westbound on Figarden. Gomez said the woman apparently believed that a turn lane intended for eastbound traffic was intended for westbound traffic, and drove into the lane. The motorcycle and the car appeared to collide nearly head-on.
The airbags in the woman’s Nissan Versa Note deployed and she remained at the scene to speak with investigators. Police did not initially believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash. Gomez said the woman told officers that she was new to the area and unfamiliar with the roadway.
