A body was discovered Friday morning at a motel in south Fresno where police previously had launched an inquiry into a man missing since Aug. 20.

The body was found in a Nissan Rogue sport-utility vehicle at the Holiday Inn Express near Jensen Avenue and Highway 99.

The SUV was rented to Devin Nelson Strunk, 32, who was last seen Aug. 20, when he rented the vehicle at Fresno Yosemite International Airport. Authorities believe he may have been from the Austin, Texas area.

Police had issued a missing-person alert Thursday for Strunk, who arrived in Fresno Aug. 19 on business from the Austin, Texas, area, rented the white SUV and checked into the motel.

Friday morning, a worker at the motel saw the SUV in the parking lot and contacted police, according to Lt. Joe Gomez.

When police issued the alert for the missing man, it was reported Strunk suffered from depression and had told friends he might visit Yosemite National Park.

Gomez said it did not initially appear that the dead man was the victim of foul play. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has not identified him.
