A man in his 70s was killed Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car while trying to cross Highway 41 underneath the Shaw Avenue overpass, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. CHP spokesman Axel Reyes said there was no information about what the victim was doing on the freeway. The northbound slow lane of 41 was closed and traffice was moving slowly in the other lanes. Reyes estimated that the roadway would be clear by 11 a.m.
By 9 a.m. traffic was backed up past the Highway 180 interchange and nearly to the Highway 168 interchange.
