Fresno homebuilder McCaffrey Homes participated in its first Central Valley Heart & Stroke Walk in October raising $11,630 for the American Heart Association.

The builder also earned the Rookie of the Year award for being a leader in team participation and money raised. The company had 56 team members.

More than 2,400 people participated in the 23rd annual event which included a 5K Run, a Kid’s Fun Run and a 2-mile walk held Oct. 10 at Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno.

“Team McCaffrey Homes demonstrated incredible commitment to this great cause, just like we do every day on the job,” said Ash Knowlton, vice president of construction. “It was an honor to walk side by side with thousands of other participants, who are so selfless in their efforts to support the American Heart Association.”

The McCaffrey team participated under the Tesoro Viejo name, the builder’s master-planned new home community in Madera County’s Rio Mesa area. The 1,600-acre project, at Highway 41 and Avenue 14, will eventually have 5,190 homes. A ground breaking is planned for 2017.

Tesoro Viejo will serve as the site for next year’s heart walk.
