For Fresno Realtor Jason Farris, buying and selling a home is about more than just the house. It’s about community.
Anyone can look up a home on websites like Zillow, Realtor.com and Trulia, said Farris who has been in real estate for 13 years. But “the parameters you can’t put down are the people you meet in those neighborhoods,” he said. “How many local restaurants are in walking distance is important and Zillow is not going to tell you that.”
Farris left Guarantee Real Estate to open his own company, with eight agents, under the name FresYes. The business is an expansion of FresYes.com, an online blog and real estate website that Farris started about six years ago to give homebuyers information about the neighborhood where they were interested in buying a home.
The website has nine contributors who write about Fresno-area restaurants and food, family events, fashion and sports, the outdoors, gardening and everything FresYes — what Fresno has to offer. There are also home listings on the site.

“I did not want to be the typical real estate agent,” Farris said. “We’re the real experience, the nooks and crannies of the neighborhood…we can be bah humbug, walking around every day and not be happy or we can embrace where we live and love it and live it.”
Farris has worked in the restaurant business and had an event planning company before he started selling land with his uncle in a family business 13 years ago. Two years later, he joined Realty Concepts in Fresno and left in 2010 to work for Guarantee.
His love of working with people attracted him to the real estate business, he said. “It was always about one-on-one service and interaction with people.”
Farris said client referrals and contacts through FresYes helped him generate more business than he did working for Guarantee.
“I sat down and said, ‘You know what? I think it’s time to take it to the next level. If I’m generating all my own business and making a difference in the community why don’t I open my own door and do it on a bigger scale?’” Farris said.
The FresYes Realty office is located in the Park Place shopping center at Palm and Nees avenues, just a few doors down from Eureka! Burger. The office will be remodeled into a welcoming space with polished concrete floors, a lot of glass walls and a nice lounge with espresso machine and refrigerator so guests can make themselves at home, Farris said.
He plans to hold community events at the office and will continue to have creative open house get-togethers, something Farris said he is known for. For example, he recently held an art hop at the home of a Fresno artist that he was selling. Future plans include coffee tasting and book readings.
