Fresno Housing Ed Corps raises $175,000 in wine event

The Fresno Housing Education Corps Wine Festival raised $175,000 at the end of May to support educational programs for children and adults living in Fresno Housing Authority developments.

More than 300 people attended the 11th annual event, held at the home of Peter and Laura Herzog, where wine was donated from Agajanian Vineyards and Marechal Vineyards. Peter Herzog is president of Real Estate Development Services, a Clovis-based housing development company. He has worked with the authority for the last 20 years as a development consultant and co-developer.

Herzog has also been a big supporter of the program which helps the housing authority’s 15,000 families achieve self-sufficiency through education. It started as the Family Self-Sufficiency program in 1995.

The program works with local school districts and community partners to extend education beyond the classroom and to the residents. Of the $175,000 raised, $32,000 was committed to providing scholarships to residents pursuing higher education.
