The Knights Inn Motel on Blackstone Avenue was sold Jan. 13 for an undisclosed price and will undergo renovations and a name change to a Super 8 motel.
The property, located at 4061 N. Blackstone Ave., was purchased by a family that owns a hotel on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, according to Stumpf and Co. Broker Alexandra Stumpf represented the buyers and Ron Stumpf represented the sellers.
The motel generated a lot of interest from local and international families, the company said. The buyer liked the location because of the Walmart across the street and the city of Fresno’s plan to improve the Blackstone Avenue corridor with bus rapid transit and fiber optic systems.
Built in 1961 as the Tropicana Inn, the 107-room motel was considered a higher-end hotel through the 1960s and 1970s. It eventually fell into disrepair and attracted prostitution and other disturbances that required police to be called.

The motel later became a Days Inn and the Knights Inn.
The buyers plan to renovate the lobby, pool, breakfast areas and rooms to help revitalize the Blackstone Avenue corridor.
