There will be a tax symposium for Fresno-area residents at Sunnyside High School on Sept. 13.
There will be presentations at 6 and 7:30 p.m. about HR 25 and HR 4377 so residents can help decide which bill would be best for them, the Fair Tax Coalition USA says.
HR 25, known as the FairTax Act of 2015, is a tax reform proposal that imposes a national sales tax on the use or consumption of taxable property or services. If enacted, it would replace the current income and corporate income tax, employment and self-employment taxes, and estate and gift taxes. The rate of the sales tax will be 23 percent in 2017 with adjustments to the rate in subsequent years.
HR 4377, known as the American Business Competitiveness Act of 2015, amends the Internal Revenue Code to reduce the tax rate on the net business income of individual and corporate taxpayers to a maximum 25 percent, and makes additional changes to the tax code for businesses.
The event is free and open to the public at the school’s theater. Seating is limited.
