The price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Fresno dropped 23 cents over the past month, the AAA reported Tuesday in its monthly check.
Fresno’s average price on Tuesday was $2.61 per gallon, compared to $2.84 on July 9, the auto club said. A year ago a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.39.
The Aug. 9 price for the Visalia-Tulare-Porterville market was $2.60 per gallon, down from the $2.80 average of the prior month.
California’s statewide average was down by 22 cents over the month to $2.66. The cheapest gas in Northern California was in Marysville, where a gallon cost $2.25. South Lake Tahoe had the most expensive, at $2.91.
The AAA said steady supplies and few problems at the state’s refineries were to thank for the price drop. Production has also been strong globally, helping push down the cost of petroleum.
“With gasoline supplies high and oil prices now, pump prices are likely to remain relatively cheap through the remainder of the summer and into the fall,” said Cynthia Harris, spokeswoman for the AAA Northern California.
