Trader Joe’s has filed paperwork with the city of Fresno seeking a permit to open a grocery store at Park Crossing in north Fresno.

Park Crossing is the new development under construction at Friant Road and Fresno Street that includes Sportsman’s Warehouse, Habit Burger and a few other businesses already open.

Trader Joe’s and Park Crossing filed an application for a conditional-use permit with the city that includes the ability to sell wine, beer and spirits. The application says the store would be at the east corner of Friant Road and Fresno Street.

City officials confirmed the request and said it is expected to be approved.

Beyond that, details are slim.

A spokeswoman for Trader Joe’s, based in Monrovia, said she didn’t have anything to announce regarding a new store. And the developers, the Zinkin family, did not return calls seeking comment.

Many questions remain to be answered: Has a lease been officially signed? Is this a third area store for the company or a relocation? When will it open if it gets the approval?

Trader Joe’s has popular stores at Blackstone and Barstow avenues in Fresno, and at Willow and Nees avenues in Clovis.

Visalia has lobbied for a Trader Joe’s for years and has a Bring Trader Joe’s to Visalia Facebook page.
