Word on the Street: Jacobsen Trailers in Fowler sold to Texas company

Jacobsen Trailers in Fowler, a longtime San Joaquin Valley business, has been sold to Big Tex Trailers. In business since 1938, Jacobsen is well know for its construction of trailers for use in agriculture. The company makes everything from flatbed trailers to dump trailers.

Based in Mount Pleasant, Texas, Big Tex also sells a variety of trailers, including industrial and recreational use. With more than 400 dealers in the U.S., Big Tex has become a leader in the utility trailer industry.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed and Jacobsen will continue to operate at its location on 1128 E. South Ave. in Fowler just west of Highway 99.

Jacobsen was operated by Gene Jacobsen, whose father Ernest founded the company. Jacobsens can be found throughout the San Joaquin Valley and are used to transport cotton, grapes and other produce.
