Hanford church recoups from suspected hate crime
A Mass of Reparation will be celebrated by Bishop Armando Ochoa at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hanford, 10435 Hanford-Armona Road, Hanford, at 7 p.m. Friday in the wake of the church being vandalized on Sunday night.
Oscar Ruiz, 33, was booked into Kings County Jail on suspicion of committing a hate crime, as well as arson and burglary, authorities said.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno described the purpose of the Mass of Reparation, saying the vandalism is considered “so serious and so offensive to the sanctity of the church building that divine worship may be celebrated in the church only after penitential reparation for the wrong done.”
