Special services at Center for Spiritual Living
The Center for Spiritual Living, 723 W. Clinton Ave., will host the second of five special devotional services 3:45-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. The services include spiritual teachings from the East, led by Rev. Shirley Hart, and teachings from the West, led by Gregory Lomack, along with music. Sunday’s theme is “I am the Alpha and the Omega.” The third service will be “The Truth Shall Set you Free” on Nov. 22, followed by the New Testament on Nov. 29 and Dec. 6.
Fresno Traditional Mass Society dinner
The Fresno Traditional Mass Society will host a dinner featuring the Rev. John M. Berg, superior general of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, following the 3:30 p.m. Latin mass on Sunday, Nov. 15, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 5770 N. Maroa Ave. Berg will talk about the family and traditional mass. Dinner tickets are $9.50 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 11, and free for children younger than 5. Dedication service at Positive Living Center
The Positive Living Center in Oakhurst is hosting a special dedication service at its new building, 40045 Indian Springs Road, at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. The celebration will include music and a potluck. The PLC held its first service in its new building on Nov. 1.
Mission to Armenia presentation
Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Fresno, Berj Apkarian, is inviting the public to a presentation at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at St. Paul Armenian Church, 3767 N. First St. in Fresno, about a volunteer mission team from the central San Joaquin Valley that traveled to Armenia to help with medical needs in the country. The evening includes refreshments and an exhibition of rugs from Armenia.
Presentation by deputy consul general of Israel
Deputy Consul General Ravit Baer of the Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Temple Beth Israel, 6622 North Maroa Ave. in Fresno. She is expected to talk about the controversial Iranian nuclear agreement and issues related to the drought. Baer previously worked coordinating Israel’s cooperation with the European Union and NATO, served as deputy head of mission at embassies in the Ivory Coast and Cyprus, and was a legal adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office. Her Nov. 18 talk is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Central California. While in Fresno, she also will meet with water management experts, local ministers and Fresno State students.
2015 Gospel awards
The central San Joaquin Valley chapter of the Edwin Hawkins and Walter Hawkins Music & Arts Love Fellowship Conference will present the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Awards in Gospel Music at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Westside Church of God, 1424 W. California Ave. in Fresno. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with a “red carpet entrance.” This year’s honorees: Christine Andrews, Donnah Glover, Marsha Jones, JackieO Kelley, Parish Thompson, Joseph and Janet Ramirez and Delores Standifer. Festival of Lights talk
Sister Hema with the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization, a teacher and practitioner of raja yoga meditation for more than 30 years, will give a free talk on the spiritual significance of Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in the fall, 3-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7319 N. Fourth St., Fresno, a central San Joaquin Valley satellite meditation center for the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization. Hema will also lead a guided meditation and candle lighting ceremony, and refreshments will be served.
‘Journey into Advent with the Aramaic Jesus’
Ellen Bush – who studied for 20 years with Neil Douglas-Klotz, a scholar in religious studies, spirituality and psychology – will lead a two-day workshop at Community United Church of Christ, 5550 N. Fresno St., Fresno, titled “Journey into Advent with the Aramaic Jesus: Meeting Jesus in His Own Words.” The gathering starts with an overview and introduction to the opening words in the Jesus Prayer 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20.
