Faith and science explored
The often “rocky” relationship between faith and science will be discussed at Lifetree Café, 475 Sunset St., Coalinga, at 7 p.m. Aug. 6. The free hourlong event, titled, “Faith and Science: Discoveries From the Scientist Who Led the Human Genome Project,” will feature a filmed interview with Dr. Francis Collins, a world-renowned geneticist noted for his leadership in the human genome project. Parish rummage sale
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 10435 Hanford-Armona Road, Hanford, will hold a parish rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1, that will include clothing, kitchen items, small appliances, books, decor and furniture.
Harvest of Harmony International Church will hold the 2015 women’s conference, “Behind the Makeup,” Aug. 7-9 at 5242 N. Garfield Ave. A conference brunch will be held Aug. 8 at Ramada Inn, 324 E. Celebrate Raksha Bandhan
Sister Gita Patel Coordinator of the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center in Los Angeles will speak and perform a bracelet-tying ceremony to celebrate Raksha Bandhan, an ancient festival that celebrates the bonds between brothers and sisters, at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization, 7319 N. Fourth St., Fresno. The free event goes from 3 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Aug. 9.
Sponsors sought for international student event
The Interfaith Alliance of Central California is asking for sponsors to help host a dinner for Fresno State international students on Aug. 28. The goal is to familiarize the students with community centers and houses of worship in Fresno, and introduce them to cultural and social events in town. The event is not open to the general public. Saint John’s Bible at Saint Agnes Medical Center
Saint Agnes Medical Center, 1303 E. Herndon Ave., Fresno, has a full-size fine art reproduction of the original Saint John’s Bible on display on the second floor of the hospital’s north wing. Saint Agnes is the only institution in California to have one of these limited copies.
The original manuscript is more than 1,100 pages and divided into seven volumes measuring 2-feet tall by 3-feet wide. The Saint Agnes Foundation raised $145,000 to secure the seven-volume set.
