Retail Therapy: Clovis store Revival 23 has pretty style, vintage items

Everything about the new Revival 23 shop in Old Town Clovis is pretty. From the flowy, feminine clothing to the colorful upcycled furniture — even the display shelves are painted a pretty pink here.

The little shop opened last month at 453 Pollasky Ave., its entrance facing Lululemon in the breezeway of the Dewitt building. The store carries a little bit of everything: gifts, jewelry, home decor, vintage and repurposed items.

"We're not the rhinestone jeans, blingy type of store," says owner and Clovis native Teresa Pries.

Instead, the clothing is in shades of ivory, beige and pink. There's sparkly sweaters and lacy tops.

Statement necklaces sell well here, from the big chunky pieces to the more delicate pendants on long chains. Most necklaces cost between $18 and $24.

The store carries the Lollia line of hand cream, candles, perfume and bubble bath. It's a line also carried at Anthropologie and there's a bit of that retailer's style here, too, with its own Clovis twist, of course.

Revival 23 carries vintage furniture, such as an old farmhouse table. Other pieces are given new life, like the repainted dresser fitted with knobs that look like tiny clocks.

The name Revival 23 stems in part from the furniture getting new life. But it's also a reference to Psalm 23 in the Bible, that comforting "The Lord is my shepherd" verse.

It's a favorite of Pries' and is printed on the store's tags.

There's a subtle religious theme in the store, with a few wooden crosses for sale. A handpainted sign says "He restores my soul" — a line from Psalm 23.

Pries and her husband pick up unique decor items at flea markets, including old typewriters and a large leather and canvas citrus-picking bag with the words "Lindsay Citrus" that can be hung on the wall as decor.

There's some handmade pieces, such as repainted gold frames and signs that say "home" and "coffee," spelled out in rusty hinges, handles and other parts.

"If you have a vintage look going in your house, this ties it all together," Pries says.

Still to come in a few weeks is the opening of a back room that Revival 23 will share with Madeleine's Bridal Boutique. Madeleine's menswear store is connected to Revival 23 via an open doorway.

Together, the two shops will stock the back room with dresses that can be worn at showers, rehearsal dinners or on honeymoons. The room will also house farmhouse tables and other wedding items that can be rented or purchased.

You can see more of Revival 23's merchandise online at www.facebook.com/revival23 and on its Instagram account. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
