The indie-rock band From Indian Lakes has spent the last two months in overdrive. It’s been on a national tour, playing in front of hundreds of kids each night as the opening act for rock band Relient K.
On the few off nights, it kept busy by booking its own headlining shows in smaller venues and markets.
“Today’s the first day off, except for Thanksgiving,” says singer Joey Vannucchi, in advance of the band’s show Friday, Dec. 19 at Strummer’s, with locals Light Thieves, The River Wilde and Dovves. “Last night was show 44. I suppose Fresno is show 46.”
It will be the final show of the tour, and it comes none too soon. Keeping this kind of performance schedule, which included spontaneous coffee-shop and record-store meet ups and performances, has been emotionally and physically exhausting, Vannucchi says.
But the band’s album “Absent Sounds,” was released in October and is getting good reaction from critics and fans. From Indian Lakes is on an upswing in popularity. The numbers on all its social media sites have triple in the last two months, and the band wanted to make sure they reached as many of their core fans before things get really hectic in the new year, Vannucchi says.
“Now is the time to go at it as hard as possible.”
