A van driver who rear-ended a Visalia patrol car was arrested Wednesday night in Visalia, police reported.
Sgt. Chris Jennings reported that an officer was stopped for a red light on South County Center Drive at West Caldwell Avenue about 9:30 p.m. when a Ford van driven by Johnathan Mates, 44, ran into the back of the cruiser. Mates tried to speed away from the crash, but was arrested a short distance away. He was booked for driving under the influence.
Neither the officer nor Mates was injured. Both vehicles sustained moderate damages.
