Disney XD launches ‘Lab Rats: Elite Force’

Bionic heroes meet superpowers in the new Disney XD series “Lab Rats: Elite Force.” The series blends two previous series on the channel: “Lab Rats: Bionic Island” and “Mighty Med.”

“Lab Rats: Elite Force” picks up after the “Mighty Med” hospital has been destroyed by a band of unknown supervillains. The “Mighty Med” team of Kaz (Bradley Steven Perry), Oliver (Jake Short) and Skylar (Paris Berelc) join forces with the “Lab Rats,” Chase (William Brent) and Bree (Kelli Berglund), to form an elite force that combines bionic heroes and superheroes. Together, they vow to track down the villains and keep the world safe.

Here’s a look at the actors who make up the new “Elite Force.”

Paris Berelc (Skylar Storm)

Also known for: Starring in the Disney Channel original movie “Invisible Sister.”

Background: Born in Milwaukee, Berelc relocated to Los Angeles with her parents and three younger sisters. When she’s not acting, she enjoys skiing, paddle boarding, reading, singing and dancing.

Fun fact: She is a Level 10 gymnast who was ranked one of the top five gymnasts in the state of Wisconsin for her age group.

Response she’s getting from young girls: “I had one girl cry. I asked her why she was crying and she told me that I had inspired her. I almost started crying because I didn’t realize the kind of power I could have over young girls. I would love to be that role model for them and send a good message. A lot of young girls need that.”

Kelli Berglund (Bree)

Also known for: The Disney Channel movie “How to Build a Better Boy.”

Background: The native of Moorpark enjoys swimming, dancing, spending time with her family, video editing, still photography and creating original films on her computer.

Fun fact: She was a featured dancer in a national promotional event for “Happy Feet.”

How she sees her character in the show: “Everyone always asks what it’s like to be a role model for young girls. I’ve modeled Bree over the years so that she’s not perfect. She has has her flaws like every other teenage girl. With the new show, she’s more of a mentor. But her sense of humor and sarcasm still come through.”

William Brent (Chase)

Also known for: Guest starring on Disney XD’s “Kickin’ It.”

Background: Born in Palm Beach County, Fla., Brent and his family moved to Hollywood in 2006 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional actor. In his time away from the set, Brent enjoys advanced stunting, motocross, surfing, skateboarding, playing guitar and songwriting.

Fun fact: Brent enjoys extreme martial arts.

On blending the two shows: “I think it is probably more difficult for the cast of ‘Mighty Med’ because this is the same stage we have been filming ‘Lab Rats’ on from the beginning. For us, there wasn’t a lot of change. Just a few cast members leaving and a few joining the show.”

Bradley Steven Perry (Kaz)

Also known for: Playing Gabe Duncan✔ on “Good Luck Charlie.”

Background: Perry lives in Southern California with his parents and three older sisters. He enjoys traveling with his family and playing baseball.

Fun fact: He’s an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.

About blending the two shows: “I have said this a hundred times: When you put two shows together, it can go really, really good or really, really bad because it’s two different minds coming together. We were very lucky that we all instantly clicked. I know every show says they become a family, but not a lot of them mean it. I mean it when I say we are like a family.”

Jake Short (Oliver)

Also known for: “A.N.T. Farm.”

Background: Born in Indiana, Short played on a regional all-star soccer team and enjoys singing, playing guitar, martial arts, gymnastics and trampoline. Short has an older brother and two younger sisters.

Fun fact: Picked up a 2012 “Kid’s Choice Award” for favorite TV actor for his performance as Fletcher Quimby on “A.N.T. Farm.”

How the new show is different: “We are all a little older so the stories are more mature. There are scenes where we aren’t just telling jokes, but there is actual story progression and dramatic acting. They’ve expanded everything. Before, my character didn’t have powers and now he has powers.”
