Philharmonic to play Prokofiev instead

There’s a program change for this weekend’s Fresno Philharmonic concert.

Guest artist Sergei Babayan will perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 instead of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 4.

Babayan requested the switch because an unanticipated change in his concert schedule didn’t leave him enough time to prepare the Rachmaninoff piece, said Stephen Wilson, the orchestra’s executive director.

The rest of the program will remain the same, with the orchestra playing Sibelius’ “Pohjola’s Daughter” and Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4, “Inextinguishable.” Theodore Kuchar conducts.

Details: 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, Saroyan Theatre, 700 M St., 559-261-0600. $25-$79.
