For Fresno fans of Heidi Blickenstaff, you can get your fix on TV instead of traveling to New York.
Blickenstaff, the former Good Company Players child standout turned “Something Rotten!” Broadway star, has long loved the music of John Kander and Fred Ebb, the famed composer and lyricist of “Cabaret” and “Chicago.” In 2012, she got the chance to star in the new musical “First You Dream: The Music of Kander and Ebb” at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Now you’ll get the chance to see her in an hourlong PBS program based on “First You Dream.” It premieres Friday, Nov. 20. Part of the fifth annual PBS Arts Fall Festival, it was shot live at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, Illinois.
Blickenstaff, a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Duke University, got her big break on Broadway playing herself in “[title of show.]” In “First You Dream,” she is part of an all-star Broadway cast that includes Norm Lewis (“Phantom of the Opera,” “Porgy & Bess”) and Kate Baldwin (“Finian’s Rainbow,” “Big Fish.”).
