Puddle of Mudd’s musical lineage branches toward both nu-metal and its alt-rock predecessors. The band had early ties to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst and was signed to his label, Flawless Records, but stood apart from contemporaries by infusing traditional hard-rock elements, especially in singer Wesley Scantlin’s vocal style.
The quartet held spots on Billboard’s rock charts through much of the 2000s. The band’s 2007 album “Famous” earned Puddle of Mudd a No. 2 spot as Billboard’s Band of the Year, behind the Foo Fighters.
Its last album was released in 2009, though the band has since released a single, “Piece of the Action,” and promise of a new record is in the works. Currently, Puddle of Mudd is doing some spot dates in the United States in advance of a European tour in March.
