You can’t mention Sir Mix-A-Lot without reference to his uber-popular 1992 hit “Baby Got Back.”

The song is the rapper’s legacy, artistically and monetarily. It is ingrained in the pop-culture lexicon word-for-word (who hasn’t sung along with the song on the radio?). It was a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1992 and the year’s biggest single behind behind Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road.” It also won the rapper a Grammy Award.

Decades later Niki Minaj sampled it heavily on her single “Anaconda.”

Mix-A-Lot continues to write, record and produce music. He also continues to perform live, with shows that appeal to the hardcore Mix A-Lot fans who remember him as a popular underground rapper. You can expect to hear “Mack Daddy” and “My Hooptie,” too.

He was in town last November for the Ladies Night Out Vol. 3 tour at the Save Mart Center.
