The English Beat returns to Fresno, planning new album

8 p.m. Friday April 3 / Fulton 55, 875 Divisadero St. / $20-$25 / (559) 412-7400,

Fresno has long been a ska town.

That’s probably why the The English Beat comes through town at least twice a year. The British band was instrumental in the 1980s ska revival and by proxy, the ska revival of the 1990s that produced bands like Fresno’s own Let’s Go Bowling.

English Beat founder Dave Wakeling is working on a new studio album, “Here We Go Love.” It will be the band’s first original release since 1982 and will be funded, in part, by a Pledge Music campaign.

The campaign offers, among other things, the chance to go out on tour with the band.
