Extreme emotions and dramatic outbursts might be considered a hallmark of reality TV today, but the “Sturm and Drang” (Storm and Stress) literary movement in the second half of the 18th Century was there long before the Kardashians. This movement greatly influenced music as well. The chamber group Musica Viva offers its stormy take with three concerts featuring string quartets by Arriaga and Haydn and a string trio by Mozart. Also on the program is Fresno composer Brad Hufft’s “Hurricane.”
Concerts are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 120 N. Hall St, Visalia; 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at First Mennonite Church, 1208 L St., Reedley; and 4 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Community United Church of Christ, 5550 N. Fresno St.
