The Avett Brothers is the new sound of folk music — a hybrid of bluegrass and country, pop and punk, folk, honky-tonk and indie-rock. The band’s last two albums (2013’s “Magpie and the Dandelion” and 2012’s “The Carpenter”) were recorded by producer Rick Rubin, who has worked with everyone from Run-D.M.C. and Johnny Cash to Neil Diamond and Tom Petty. Both albums topped Billboard’s folk charts and had major crossover success on the Top 200 chart by ranking in the top five.
The seven-piece band, which includes brothers Scott and Seth Avett, is on the tail end of tour playing at theaters, including Visalia Fox Theatre, where it stops on Saturday, Feb. 14. The band last played the area in 2009.
