Critical mass: Movie review roundup for March 11-17

Zootopia (PG)

Directed by: Rich Moore, Byron Howard

Starring: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence

The pitch: Judy Hopps, the first rabbit to become part of the Zootopia police force, tries to earn respect by solving a kidnapping mystery. She gets help from Nick Wilde, a fox who makes a living conning other animals.

The formula: Horse around with parts of “Bolt.” Snake through some bits of “Madagascar.” Herd up segments of “Chicken Little.”

Go see it: … No matter your age. Whether you are young or old, the movie has comedy for all ages.

Don’t go see it: If you can’t stand the sight of a naked yak.

Who?: It’s not a coincidence that the red-headed fox who starts doing detective work while wearing Aviator sunglasses reminds you of David Caruso on “CSI: Miami.” The directors are big fans.
