Gaining some ‘Leverage’

“Leverage: The 1st Season” Grade B: Timothy Hutton stars in this TNT drama about a group of thieves, hackers and grifters who are a modern-day band of Robin Hoods. They like to get revenge against those who use power and wealth to victimize others.

Hutton plays the leader of the band of techno vigilantes that includes Gina Bellman (“Coupling”), Christian Kane (“Into the West”), Beth Riesgraf (“Alvin and the Chipmunks”) and Aldis Hodge (“Friday Night Lights”).

The series is a little “Mission: Impossible” and a little “It Takes a Thief.” Clever writing makes it a fun series.

Included in the DVD set are the 13 episodes from the initial season.

“Mad Men: Season Two” Grade B-: If you don’t subscribe to cable, this is a quick way to get up to speed on the critically heralded series. It is also a good way to fast forward through the occasional slow spots.

Jon Hamm is the top dog at an advertising agency in the early ’60s. He must juggle the demands of the creative world with the pitfalls of his personal life. Drama comes from inappropriate office talk, the subjugation of women and the pretechnology cockiness that is thick in every scene. The nostalgia of the show is almost overwhelming.
