Happy Birthday to J.J. Abrams. The director who was brave enough to tackle the directing duties for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” turns 49 on Saturday, June 27.

I’ve had several opportunities to speak with Abrams over the year. The most recent being for his work with the “Star Trek” reboot. We chatted about “Super 8” once at the Four Seasons Hotel while he ate lunch.

My favorite chat with Abrams was the first back in 1998 when he was the executive producer of the series “Felicity.” I like the series a lot but couldn't buy the idea that a modern woman would change her college plans to move across country for a guy.

Abrams called me after the review published.

"That was you? I remember making the call and asking you to watch a few more episodes, " Abrams says.

I did and the show became a favorite. That series combined with what he did with “Star Trek” give me great hope for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
