Two Fresno-area musicians are leaving on a two-week tour of Japan on Saturday, July 23, as members of the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. They are:
▪ Baritone saxophonist Adam Band, 18, a graduate of Bullard High School. He played in the Fresno City College Jazz Band, the Fresno County Honor Jazz Band and the California All-State Jazz Band. He will attend University of the Pacific in the fall.
▪ Trombonist Ethan Santos, 18, a graduate of Buchanan High School. He played in the California All-State Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band, the Vail Jazz Festival All-Stars, and the 2015 and 2016 GRAMMY Camp-Jazz Session. He also was selected as a 2016 National Young Arts Foundation Honorable Mention Winner in jazz trombone. He will attend Berklee College of Music in the fall.
After returning from its Japan tour, the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra will perform at the 59th annual Monterey Jazz Festival on Sept. 18.
