We know Fresno is a soccer town, but it’s nice to hear it from others.
For instance, the soccer fan site thecup.us, which recently broke down the Premier Development League teams it thinks might be invited to the 2017 US Open Cup with a mention of the Fresno Fuego. It called the team, “the most-supported team in the PDL.”
That’s no doubt reference to the team’s official support club, Fire Squad Fresno, which The Bee’s Marek Warszawski already profiled and which will be out in force for the Fuego’s match tonight against the Burlingame Dragons. It’s the first game of the league’s Central Pacific Division playoffs.
The club has seen exponential growth in the last two years; from four original members to more than 300. It has also created for itself a great game-day aesthetic – the jerseys and scarfs and flags. Seeing the club march across Broadway before each match leading the crowd through a series of Fresno-centric pride chants is a spectacle to say the least. You can find out more about the club on its Facebook page.
