Clovis Rodeo opens next week. Here’s what you need to know

Officially, the Clovis Rodeo kicks off its 105th year next Thursday.

That’s the first night of official competition followed by the rodeo’s opening night concert with Russell Dickerson (or rising country star Russell Dickerson, if you prefer).

Country singer Aaron Watson plays Friday night. The Clovis Rodeo dance is Saturday.

There are pre-rodeo events happening all week, for those who just can’t wait.

The John W. Jones Sr. Memorial Steer Wrestling event happens 10 a.m. Monday, followed by the James Pickens Jr. Foundation charity roping event at 10 a.m. Tuesday. That’s the 10th annual.

On Wednesday, the rodeo teams up with Central California Blood Center to host its annual blood drive (more than 13,000 lives saved over 19 years, according to the rodeo).
