“Game of Thrones” went all out with the marketing tie-ins in advance of the premiere of its final season (which you can see starting 9 p.m. Sunday; or 6 p.m. if you get HBO’s East Coast feed or HBO’s streaming service).
Indeed, the limited-run cookies (normal on one side and representing the houses of Lannister, Targaryen, Stark and The Night King on the other) have proven popular. Fresno’s Walmart Supercenter on Ingram Avenue was out of the cookies when contacted Thursday. The 16 cases they had gotten earlier in the week sold out by noon the day they arrived.
A new shipment was expected soon.
The Save Mart at First Street and Nees Avenue had only a few boxes left as of Thursday afternoon. The store wasn’t sure when it might be getting more in stock, according to the manager who answered the phone.
Target’s Fresno West store (at Shaw and Marks avenues) said it had been receiving calls from customers inquiring about the cookies all week. They did have the cookies in stock on Friday afternoon.
This isn’t the first time Oreo has hit marketing gold with a limited-run cookie.
In January, the company released a limited number of its Most Stuf cookie, which had fans freaking out.
And yes, Oreo cookies have fans. One of them happens to be the Marketing Director for the Fresno Grizzlies. Some will remember the team’s Oreo Taco night back in 2017. There were hats and uniforms and everything.
