Kyle Busch Update: New Details About Timeline of Nascar Legend's Tragic Death Raise More Questions
New details about Kyle Busch's shocking death are being released.
Busch, one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR history, died on Thursday, May 21, after suddenly falling ill. Initial reports suggested that Busch was hospitalized earlier in the day and that he died several hours later. However, a new report from the Associated Press indicates that Busch was actually admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, May 20.
Per the report, Busch, 41, "was testing in the Chevrolet racing simulator in Concord on Wednesday when he became unresponsive and was transported to a hospital in Charlotte." Despite this update, questions about what happened to the NASCAR icon remain.
Busch's family released the following statement on Thursday morning.
"Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation," the statement, posted on Busch's X account, read.
About seven hours later, NASCAR confirmed that Busch had died.
"Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch," a statement posted on the official NASCAR website read. "A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans."
"Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR's highest level and fostered the next generation of drivers as an owner in the Truck Series. His sharp wit and competitive spirit sparked a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, creating the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation,'" the statement continued.
The organization sent its condolences to Busch's family before asking for privacy on their behalf. It promised that additional updates would be shared "as appropriate."
Busch was preparing to compete in the upcoming Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 24.
Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, and two children, Brexton and Lennix. His cause of death is still unclear.
