Downtown Fresno is in the holiday spirit, as this photo suggests. Are you?

Earlier this month, Fresno native Edgar Ruiz flew his drone and captured a wide-shot photo of downtown Fresno that shows a Christmas tree lit up atop the Pacific Southwest Building, and several traffic lights lit in red and green in the background. Ruiz’s posting got shared on Instagram by the downtownfresno account and generated almost 800 likes in the last five days.

The holiday season is here.

And if you haven’t noticed, downtown Fresno already has been in full spirit.

And if you look the lights around town, the rest of the city even has a Christmas glow.

Earlier this month, Fresno native Edgar Ruiz flew his drone and captured a wide-shot photo of downtown Fresno that shows a Christmas tree lit up atop the Pacific Southwest Building, and several traffic lights lit in red and green in the background.

Ruiz’s aerial shot got shared on Instagram by the downtownfresno account and generated almost 800 likes in the last seven days.

“You could see the building and the tree from where I was sitting from the Cultural Arts Park (in downtown),” said Ruiz, who does photography as a hobby but is hoping to become a professional photographer. “But when you get that view of the building from 260 feet in the air, it was amazing.

“Usually, only a bird or someone in a helicopter would only get to see the city like that.”

Ruiz said he also was glad he took the photo just before the wild fires in Northern and Southern California intensified, and pushed smoke and hazy skies toward the central San Joaquin Valley.

“Hazy conditions are not good for night photography,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz added he’s proud to show some of the beauty that Fresno, particularly downtown Fresno, has to offer.

“I’m born and raised in Fresno,” Ruiz said. “Some of my earliest childhood memories are from downtown Fresno and Fulton Mall.

“Seeing it lit up like that for Christmas, it makes me smile.”
