Ruben Castellon's goal in the 64th minute allowed fourth-ranked Fresno Pacific to escape with a season-opening 1-0 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Thursday night in Prescott, Ariz.
Gabriel Ramirez, a sophomore from Roosevelt High, assisted on the goal by Castellon, who fired upper right and into the net.
"We couldn't get into the rhythm we wanted," Sunbirds coach Jaime Ramirez said. "Our younger players hung tough and contributed to help us get the win."
Castellon is a sophomore from Oxnard.

Well, an impressive display of offensive prowess that was not.
No. 10 seed Redwood leads No. 7 Hoover 7-0 at halftime of this Central Section Division 2 football playoff game at McLane Stadium, but it wasn't because of the Rangers' offense.
Redwood defensive back Matt Ramos stepped in front of a Shane Martinez pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown with 8:41 remaining in the second quarter for the game's only score.
