'Dog briefs: Fresno State golfers are third

Bhavik Patel shot a 6-under 65 as Fresno State surged into third with one round to play at the University of the Pacific Invitational.

Patel, a freshman from Bakersfield, delivered his low round of the season and the tournament's second-lowest of the day in moving from 18th place to fourth.

Michael Gideon, a junior from Lancaster, shot a 4-under 67 as the Bulldogs shot an 11-under 273 -- the second-lowest round of the tournament. They trail UC Davis by eight strokes and Oregon by nine entering today's final round.

Bulldogs No. 10 in equestrian

Fresno State is ranked 10th in the latest Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian Coaches' poll.

Auburn is No. 1, followed by Georgia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Baylor, Kansas State, Texas Christian and New Mexico State.
