Despite finishing the match with its lowest hitting percentage of the season (.198), No. 1 Fresno Pacific had little trouble en route to a 25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18 victory against Vanguard in a Golden State Athletic Conference match at the Special Events Center.

Lisa Shilling led the Sunbirds (25-0, 14-0) with 8 of the team's 16 blocks and Martina Gregusova had 12 kills.

Sarantos, Quall named to Crawford Cup team

George Sarantos of Fresno and Bob Quall of Merced were named to a four-man U.S. Crawford Cup team for players 70 and older. They will compete at the ITF Senior World Team Championships in Perth, Australia, on Nov. 2-7.

Spaghetti feed will precede races

A spaghetti feed will precede Saturday's Trophy Cup races at Tulare's Thunderbowl Raceway. Hot laps start at 4 p.m. today and Saturday for the two-day event featuring an $80,000 purse. Races start at 6 p.m. both nights.
