Local briefs: No. 1 Sunbirds roll in volleyball

NAIA No. 1-ranked Fresno Pacific continued to sweep through its Golden State Athletic Conference volleyball foes.

The Master's (9-11, 1-9) was the latest victim, as the Sunbirds rolled 25-10, 25-18, 25-18.

Fresno Pacific (19-9, 9-0) hit .303. Erika Adachi had 18 assists and Karlie Houston 11 digs. The Sunbirds travel Saturday to face Westmont.

Conference honors Regehr

Casey Regehr, a former Redwood High standout, has been named Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference male athlete of the week after leading the Whittier College men's water polo team to a 3-1 weekend at the Claremont Convergence Tournament.

Regehr totaled 56 saves at the tournament. The Poets, who jumped to No. 4 in the Division III Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, defeated then-No. 1 Johns Hopkins 8-6, now No. 10 Washington & Jefferson 15-4 and Fordham 9-6. Whittier lost 10-8 to Division I Air Force, which is 14th overall in the national varsity Top 20 rankings.

Regehr had eight saves Sunday in a 13-5 loss at national varsity No. 6 UC Santa Barbara. He leads the Western Water Polo Association in saves with 213.

FCC sets CVC golf pace

Toyahni Beihn shot the day's best round of 5-over 78 as Fresno City remained atop the Central Valley Conference women's golf standings.

Lauren Marlow (83) tied for fourth at Visalia's Valley Oaks in the latest CVC mini-tournament. The Rams (337) were 12 better than Cañada.

Fresno leads the CVC with 33 points, followed by Cañada (30).
