Kyle Gottula of Modesto left no doubt about his championship credentials in the Western Late Models class at Madera Speedway.
The 23-year-old won his eighth race Saturday -- a 111-lap feature -- and clinched the HotWood 333 and WLM championships for the second straight year.
"That is really special. Awesome!" Gottula told the crowd afterward.
Six other track champions were crowned on the last points night.
Atwater's Jason Aguirre finished second to Coulterville's Matt Erickson in the American Limited Stock Car main but clinched the overall title.
Fresno's Donnie Large rallied past Modified Super Toyotas leader John Bowersox of Chowchilla by posting fast time, winning the trophy dash and then the feature for his 10th victory and the track championship.
A fifth-place finish was good enough for Fresno's Jason Kerns to hold off Sanger's Chris Lewis and win the Toyota Sedans title. It was Kerns' second championship to back the one he won in 2005.
A sweep of the Hornets events enabled 67-year-old Dean Davison of Kingsburg to unseat two-time defending champion Miles Humphreys of Clovis for the championship. Davison won his heat, the trophy dash and the main event.
Brentwood's Patrick Hill finished fourth in Mini Cup to secure his second championship. He won 11 of 14 races and was named Miniature Motorsports Racing Association Future Star Western National champion.
Dillon Hutchison of Citrus Heights won the overall Baby Grands title.
Madera Speedway wraps up its season Oct. 24 with the third annual Pumpkin Smash featuring USAC Sprint Cars, USAC Focus Midgets, American Limited Stock Cars, Enduro, Destruction Derby, Drag Boat Nationals and a fireworks show. The track championship awards banquet is Nov. 7.
Cotton Classic at Kings
While the usual 410 sprint cars won't be headlining this year, the Cotton Classic returns for a 26th running Saturday at Hanford's Kings Speedway.
Because of dwindling sponsor dollars and a declining number of 410 teams willing to make the trip, Kings Speedway promoter Frank Dias is turning to the West Coast Sprinters 360 nonwinged cars as the show's main attraction.
Points leader Justyne Hamblin will be joined by series contenders Jared Little, Rusty Carlile, T.J. Smith, Jace VanderWeerd, Richard VanderWeerd and Craig Stidham. Veteran 360 drivers Bud Kaeding, Wally Pankrantz and Kory Kruseman also are expected to be in the WCS field.
The Cotton Classic will feature the Bay Cities Racing Association and the USAC Midgets joining forces with drivers such as David Pricketts, Shannon McQueen and Robby Flock likely in the field.
Visalia has 3-day show
Giant Chevrolet Raceway promoter Brandon Morse is expecting between 60 and 80 cars for the Visalia track's Super 600 Nationals, scheduled for today through Saturday.
A $22,000 total purse -- with Saturday's main event winner pocketing $5,000, the largest ever awarded at the track -- has attracted drivers from as far away as Arizona, Washington, Oklahoma and Arkansas to race against many of the central San Joaquin Valley's best, including Peter Murphy, Michael Faccinto, Mitchell Faccinto, Stan Yockey and Dominic Scelzi.
Racing starts at 7 p.m. all three nights.
As an added incentive to different drivers, a $1,000 bonus will be added if an out-of-state driver wins the main event.
