The Fresno Monsters rallied in the third period to tie Valencia, then won a shootout for a 4-3 victory in a duel of Western States Hockey League unbeatens.

Ryan Parkhouse's goal with 1 minute, 4 seconds left sent the game into OT in Valencia.

After a scoreless 5-minute overtime, the Monsters won the shootout 2-1 on goals from Parkhouse and Don Coyle.

Fresno improved to 3-0 and Valencia fell to 2-1.

Garton leads Rams men

Trae Garton scored twice to lift Fresno City to a 2-0 men's soccer victory against Allan Hancock in Santa Maria.

The Rams, ranked No. 8 in the nation, got assists from Alex Gomez and Joe Colmenero Jr. Fabian Rangel made four saves, as Fresno City outshot the Bulldogs 12-5.

Fresno City (7-2-2) will host College of the Sequoias on Tuesday in a Central Valley Conference opener.

West Hills got past Los Angeles Mission 1-0 in Sylmar, improving to 5-3 overall.

FCC women rally, win 3-1

Fresno City scored three unanswered goals and beat Mt. San Antonio 3-1 in a nonconference women's soccer match.

Becca Schroeder provided the winner with a header off a corner kick in the 73rd minute.

The Rams (5-1-4) got a tying goal from Sabrina Arietta as the first half ended 1-1.

Esmeralda Garcia's five goals led West Hills-Lemoore past Hartnell 7-1.

Sunbirds take pair in pool

Fresno Pacific won two men's water polo matches on the first day of the Lancer Invitational in Riverside.

The Sunbirds (8-2) beat Chapman 11-9 and LaVerne 10-6, and will conclude play today against Pomona Pitzer and Mt. San Antonio.

Ex-'Dogs coach, 91, dies

Duke Jacobs, one of the founders of the Bulldog Foundation, died at the age of 91 last week in Chandler, Ariz.

Mr. Jacobs coached Fresno State's football team in 1950-51 and compiled a 7-11-1 record.

About that time, Mr. Jacobs teamed with the late Al Radka to help launch the Bulldog Foundation, the athletic department's main fundraising organization.

After Mr. Jacobs' coaching career ended, he opened an advertising agency, which he operated until 1974 when he relocated to Phoenix.

Mr. Jacobs is survived by his daughter, Catherine Jacobs Faber, her husband and two granddaughters.
