It's almost that time of year for Valley hunters
The long lines at the California Fish and Game office on Shaw Avenue can only mean one thing: Hunting season is upon us.
The action began Saturday when archery season for deer opened in hunting zones D6, D7 and D8. Rifle season begins Sept. 19 in D6 and D7 and Sept. 28 in D8. All 9,000 tags in D7, which includes most of eastern Fresno and Madera counties, are sold out.
Hunters are also looking forward to the statewide dove opener on Sept. 1. The DFG estimates that 900,000 Californians participate in the dove opener, making it the most popular hunting day of the year.
Also, the DFG is offering an upland game bird hunting clinic Sept. 26 at Peace Valley near Lebec. Topics include information on quail, chukar and pheasant.
