Dove hunters are invited to apply for a series of free dove hunts in the Fresno region.
These special hunts take place in State Wildlife Areas and are administered by the Department of Fish and Game's Game Bird Heritage Program.
Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Monday.
The first part of dove season runs Sept. 1-15. Included are mourning doves, spotted doves, ringed turtle-doves and Eurasian collared-doves.
The special hunts are as follows:
Pilibos Wildlife Area (Sept. 1-2)
Tranquillity Hunt (Sept. 1)
Huron Hunt (Sept. 1)
Winton Hunt (Sept. 5): Juniors only
Success Lake Wildlife Area (open without reservations most of the season)
In addition, the Los Banos Wildlife Area will have three restricted zones for hunting on the opener while the North Grasslands Unit will accept 110 reservations Sept. 1. The Mendota Wildlife Area will not be issuing reservations for the opener.
