Keith Brockman, co-owner of the Pine Flat Lake Marina, caught a 14-pound, 4-ounce largemouth bass Monday that is believed to be a lake record.
Brockman and his brother, Carl, were fishing in front of Deer Creek near the marina when they spotted the large bass in clear, shallow water. It took about 30 minutes for the fish to strike the jigging spoon lure.
The 28-inch-long female fish was weighed at nearby Doyal's Store and will be displayed at the marina market.
"She had already spawned out, so that fish could've been 4-5 pounds heavier a week ago," Keith Brockman said.
"I never keep a fish, but she was so stressed out from spawning and the fight I don't think it would have survived anyway."
The previous unofficial lake record was a 14.17-pound largemouth caught by Greg Grisham of Lindsay in 2002, according to Doyal's manager Mark Owens.
Pine Flat is known more for its trophy spotted bass, including the current world record of 10.27 pounds.
