El Diamante still dominating in D-II
VISALIA - Meet the new, sleeker version of the El Diamante High football team.
It looks a little different from the squad that reached the Central Section Division II final last season, but it's still registering the same dominating results.
Aaron Sing, a running back who's probably 3 inches shorter and at least 35 pounds lighter than last year's featured back, broke free for 213 yards and five touchdowns to lead the 11th-ranked Miners to a 37-21 victory over crosstown rival Redwood on Friday night at Mineral King Bowl.

Cougars open C-USA play against Miners
Following a pair of impressive non-league victories, the 12th-ranked Houston Cougars now turn their focus to Conference USA play, as they tangle with the Texas-El Paso Miners at Sun Bowl Stadium.
The Cougars have yet to play a C-USA game this season, but they are the team everyone else is gunning for thanks to a pair big victories over Big 12 opponents that launched the program into the Top 25 for the first time since 1991. Last weekend, Houston played its first game as a ranked team in 18 years and it certainly didn't disappoint, pulling out a thrilling last-minute, 29-28, victory over Texas Tech in front of a Robertson Stadium record crowd of 32,114.
"It was a great victory in light of what was happening in our stadium," said head coach Kevin Sumlin. "For it to be the largest crowd since we moved from the Astrodome, to do it for the alumni, students, the fans who showed up, for the students who lined up on Monday, for the fans who were there when we showed up this morning. It means a lot to win a game

GAME NOTES: The Texas-El Paso Miners and Tulsa Golden Hurricane hook up at the Sun Bowl this Wednesday night, as they clash in a key Conference USA West Division affair.
The Miners entered the season with aspirations of winning the West Division title, but in order to do so they will need to knock off the two-time defending champions of the division, Tulsa. UTEP hasn't exactly lived up to expectations just yet, although the team did show its potential by knocking off nationally-ranked Houston, 58-41, its league opener on October 3rd. Unfortunately, the Miners were unable to build off that win and were defeated by a struggling Memphis club, 35-20, the next weekend. Consistency has been an issue thus far for UTEP, which sits at just 2-4, including
