River Parkway seeks volunteers
The San Joaquin River Parkway is holding its volunteer orientation Saturday.
The orientation will run from 10 a.m. to noon and will provide information on upcoming volunteer opportunities and how to help the organization meet its goals for this year.

Fine Gold Creek Hike
When: 9 a.m. Saturday
Where: Fine Gold Creek Preserve
The Sierra Foothill Conservancy will lead a moderate hike along Fine Gold Creek just above Millerton Lake. The hike follows a newly cut trail that runs streamside and onto gradual slopes, steeper inclines and rocky areas. The hike takes about four hours, including a lunch stop and the walk back to the parking lot. Spots are limited.

Rail contests at China Peak
China Peak is hosting its first of two rail competitions Saturday. The Tollhouse Rail Jam starts at 11:30 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
On Jan. 31, the Grind Out Hunger Rail Jam returns for a fourth year. The event costs $5 with all proceeds benefiting Grind Out Hunger and the Community Food Bank. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the first heat scheduled for 11 a.m.
